The role of religions and interreligious dialogue in addressing climate change

Authors: Joan Hernández-Serret, Genti Kruja, Elisabeth Naurath, Maureen Goodman, Moti Daba

According to the international scientific community (IPCC, 2018), climate change is one of the most serious problems facing the planet today and has numerous socio-environmental impacts. In 2030, cities will be the place where 60% of the population will live. All religions agree that it is urgent to address climate change. Global solidarity for the ethical, moral and spiritual commitment to protect the environment is mobilizing religious communities and interfaith groups. Actions at the local level, such as with international agreements and collaboration with other actors are essential to creating this new climate culture. Focusing on the cities (SDG11) we are going to see what is being done, why, how, and what the convergences found between the different religions and with other social actions to addressing this emerging situation.Chair: Joan Hernandez-Serret (Universitat Internacional de Catalunya (UIC)) Speakers:Joan Hernandez-Serret (Universitat Internacional de Catalunya (UIC)), The Manresa 2022 pact: An interreligious, international, and multisectoral pact for climate change.Genti Kruja (Beder University College / Interreligious Council of Albania), The role of religious communities and their educational system in solving the climate crisis: The case of AlbaniaElisabeth Naurath (Universität Augsburg), Climate Crisis in Europe: The Role of Religious Actors for International CooperationMaureen Goodman (Brahma Kumaris), Biodiversity and the voice of faithMoti Daba (Public Theology of Ethiopia), The Role of Religious Institutions in Fighting Climate Crisis in Ethiopia: in the Case of the Ethiopian Evangelical Church Mekane Yesus
