Panel Topic: Interreligious Dialogue

Rethinking the frame of reference for the dialogue among people of different faiths

Authors: Ilaria Macconi Heckner, Patrice Chocholski, Marie-Laure Durand, Francesco Cargnelutti, Innocent Maganya, Matthias Eder

This panel wants to stimulate a general process of rethinking the old system of reference at the heart of the Christian theology, promoting the identification of a new paradigm and different modalities to build the relationship with people of other faith. The critical work of Christian theology on itself, in primis in its intrinsic link to the people of Israel, asks to engage with similar questioning from Muslim theology and which would concern the relationship to Christianity and/or Judaism. The historical analysis of the life trajectory of a prominent Tunisian promoter of the Christian-Muslim dialogue and a look into the praxis of multireligious coexistence in East Africa will offer additional elements for reflection. Presenting the results of very different research perspectives as well as of practical experiences, the panelists also want to open a broader discussion about the foundations and guiding principles of interreligious dialogue. Finally, this panel would like to strengthen and expand the exchange within and with the existing Euro-African scientific and academic network.Chair: Ilaria Macconi (FSCIRE) Speakers:Patrice Chocholski (Institut Catholique de la Méditerranée (ICM)), “At the beginning is the Relation” (M.
