The social and philosophical upheavals of the 20th century have produced continued pressure to reimagine the shape of theological discourse. One especially productive community that has modeled how to “go on” doing theology in light of these developments is that of the English Dominicans. This particular order of preachers, established in Oxford since 1221, have produced a variety of creative retrievals of Thomas Aquinas in dialogue with diverse thinkers such as Jung, Heidegger, Wittgenstein, Marx, and others. This panel will historically situate the development of this community over the last century and consider their continued merits for theology today.
