Religious Freedom from the Inside: Religious/Life Stance Discourses on and Employments of the Right to FORB
Authors: Jelle Creemers, Tatiana Kopaleishvili, Leon van den Broeke, Rudmer Bijlsma, Klaas-Willem de Jong
While religious/life stance actors across the globe do not necessarily accept the Human Rights framework as universally binding and ethically and legally authoritative, there is a general tendency of religious/life stance communities to utilize the right to Freedom of Religion or Belief (FORB), particularly when being in a minority position. This panel invites contributions which speak on FORB, giving attention to religious/life stance perspectives ‘from the inside’. That may include the following: (a) philosophical or legal discussions on overlapping religious/life stance justifications of FORB; theoretical defences or criticisms of FORB rights from a religious/life stance perspective; (b) empirical positionings of religious/life stance communities or actors in the complex of societal, interreligious or religion-state relations; (c) struggles within religious/life stance communities with FORB rights or other fundamental human rights.
