The Eschaton and the "Inside": The role of the inner dimension in the eschatological reflections of the Early Modern Age

Irrespective of individual backgrounds, peculiar approaches and specific evaluations of the present age, coping with the concept of Eschaton means traditionally striving to offer a big and consistent eschatological picture. Broadly speaking, the Early Modern Age has proven to be a prolific context for the establishment of several prophetical patterns, whose heterogeneous nature and different connotation (apocalyptical, mystical, etc.) is, in turn, a good indicator of the variety of folkloric, philosophical and sacred sources at play. According to the Conference topic "Religion from the Inside", this Panel aims at investigating the relationship between these various representations of the Eschaton and the "Inside" — intended as the individual and internal framework set in dialogue with the external expectations formalised in the big picture, somehow. Can we explore this "somehow" a bit further? E.g., does the Inside experience itself a change, when the external change occurs? Is the change in the Inside an unavoidable consequence or the necessary premise of this external change? Is there a change at all, or it is just the result of the prophecy at display? Does the unavoidable fulfillment of the prophecy eventually impact on the Inside, in turn?
