Sin and Responsibility

Authors: T. Parker Haratine, Olli-Pekka Vainio, Aku Visala, Harvey Cawdron

This panel addresses the relationship between sin, moral wrongdoing, and responsibility. Until recently, various thinkers often regarded individuals as guilty only if the individuals were responsible for a state of affairs, and moreover, that sin and moral wrongdoing are extensionally the same. This panel probes the complexities of these concepts and their respective relations. It addresses topics such as whether an individual is responsible and/or guilty for inheriting original sin, the relation between individual and systemic sin, and the relationship between the concepts of sin and moral wrongdoing. In discussing such topics, the panel addresses the intricacies of what it means for individuals to be sinful and guilty, and further, the relationship between sin, moral wrongdoing, and responsibility.Chair:T.
