The panel aims at promoting reflection on the concepts of embodiment and disembodiment in religious and ethical settings, with a broad interdisciplinary perspective, but focusing in particular on the ways in which technological evolutions change the relationship between interiority and exteriority in religious experience and its organization. Paper proposals that focus on the massive advent of the digital in religious communication will be particularly appreciated. The proposal ties in with the theme of the conference in that it also aims at re-problematizing the dialectic between etic and emic approaches to the religious in relation to the theme of embodiment and disembodiment; can one truly grasp a religion ‘from the inside’ when receiving a digitally mediated version of it? And what new dimensions of this experience emerge, conversely, when digitality itself becomes immersive and thus proposes new ways of exploring the digital from within the virtual simulation?Chair: Massimo Leone (Fondazione Bruno Kessler) Speakers:Massimo Leone (Fondazione Bruno Kessler), Embodiment and Disembodiment in the Latent SpaceDavid Burton (University of Bridgeport), Teilhard de Chardin and the MetaversePaolo Costa (Fondazione Bruno Kessler), Body and Flesh: A Quick Journey between Augustine and FoucaultShannon Craigo-Snell (Louisville Presbyterian Theological Seminary), Acting Out and Acting InAlvin Eng Hui Lim (National University of Singapore), Digital Underworld Gods on Live StreamsValeria Fabretti (Fondazione Bruno Kessler), Spatiality and Materiality of Religion: Reframing a Dynamic Field of Study in the Current Social ScenarioLucia Galvagni (Fondazione Bruno Kessler), Disembodied Souls and Embodied Self?
